I just got back from jail, I'll let you guys know what happens in court. I'm out on bond so I'll be dealing with this situation for a few days. Tomorrow I should be going to get my cell phone back so for those of you who have it, wait till tomorrow evening to call.

What could you have possibly done to go to jail Davis? You are like the most law abiding person I know.

I am, that's what my lawyer is going to argue. I'll release the details once I go to court and get a disposition. Until then I don't feel comfortable telling all of FA.

I talked to my lawyer. He promised that I'd never see the inside of a jail cell. And I'm breathing a lot easier.

Re: I just went to jail.
Okay guys, I need Ordin, Sparta, and Toothpick to all do this:
Write a personal letter addressed "To Whom it may concern" or "Dear Grand Jury" and tell them what you know about me. Keep it short, a paragraph or less. Put your full name at the bottom. Use your best writing skills. This is to attest to my character as the good and sparkling person you know me to be.
I'll be telling them about getting into National Technical Honor Society and whatnot. If you can, link here to a word document with your letter. My lawyer needs this for the jury. I can tell you they arrested me at the airport for having 2 knives in my laptop bag that I didn't know about (and I checked thoroughly). So anything you can do to let them know I'm not violent and never break the law, even in private.

Re: I just went to jail.
Ok, Davis my uncle just reformatted his computer so it doesn't have Word yet so I am going to type it her if that's ok and you can transfer it to Word.
To Whom it may concern,
My name is Kiefer Perry and I am a very close friend of Davis Calvert's
and I would like to personally state that Davis is one of the nicest, nonviolent people I
know. Yes he may be a fan of knives and other collectibles, but he would never
take them, knowingly, anywhere he knew they were not aloud. Just talking to him
would show that he would never hurt anyone. In closing Davis is the ideal law
abiding citizen.
Sincerely,
Kiefer Perry

Re: I just went to jail.
Dear Grand Jury,
The man you are currently deliberating over is the most honorable person I know, a martial artist who upholds the virtues of nonviolence and rationality in every aspect of his life and a sincere and warm-hearted friend to me for many years. This tragic, faultless mistake should not undo a lifetime of proper action. Consider Davis Calvert as the great, upstanding man he is and not by his accidental, unknowing possession of a few knives in a bag he willingly let be scanned, assuming (unfortunately incorrectly) that it was devoid of weapons. Please don’t mistake his possession with any intent to use these weapons, because that is so utterly out of his character that it is laughable. I plead for your understanding on behalf of my friend’s good name.

Re: I just went to jail.
Oh god please remove that last line. I do NOT want to be exonerated. That's when I'm legally found GUILTY and then later re-tried and found innocent. I don't want it to be indicted (meaning goes to trial) or I want the charges dropped (gets indicted but the prosecutor backs down) or the charges dismissed (gets prosecuted but the judge throws it out).
Just ending it with "my friend's good name" would be great. Also everyone please leave your phone numbers in case my lawyer (Charles Humphreys) calls to verify your statement.

Re: I just went to jail.
Dear Grand Jury,
I have known Davis Calvert for nearly five years now. He has always been an excellent friend to me, through thick and thin. The entire time I have known him he has always been an upstanding, honorable man; I have always considered him to be one of the most gentle and caring people I know. To that effect, and with much verbosity, I must say that this man would not, and could not, knowingly endanger the lives of his fellow man. It is simply not within him to do so.
I thank you,
Matthew Aaron Williams

Jesus.
I have sporadic Internet access for a few months and this happens?!
God damn it. Davis, I'm sorry to hear about all of this.

Re: I just went to jail.
UPDATE!
Today my lawyer called. We didn't get the Grand Jury to no-bill it, but they did recognize the mistake and made it the lowest misdemeanor possible. He's going to see about getting the DA to drop the case or settle it outside of court. Basically right now I've only committed something as bad as having lots of traffic tickets.
Thanks for all the effort you guys put in for me, that jury package really helped me get my case changed. Technically since a new case will be filed, I'll have a warrant out for arrest but I'm in a different state and they don't arrest you for misdemeanors. My lawyer's going to have the judge transfer my bond to the new case and I'll be all good.
