UPDATED: Gunblade icon
The current weapon types allowed are as follows:
Instrument:
Make music of a deadly kind! Go FLCL on someone's ass as you bash him with an electric guitar, or play a deadly dirge. Go wild! (Instruments ignore DEF and MDEF)
Gunblade:
The barrels are set above the blade kind of like a bayonet. You shoot above your blade and slice with the blade below it. Note: only Engineers may use this weapon, all other classes must gain a common ability!
Sword:
The kind of weapon that focuses on close-range melee attacks. It has a relatively short reach, although longer than the reach of gloves. Swords have varying weights so you should choose the type that best matches your character profile.
Katana:
Only usable by the Reaper class unless a character takes a common ability. This sword is deadly sharp, deadly fast, and scientifically the most balanced of all. These include Tanto, Wakazashi, Katana, Odachi, Nodachi, or even a set of 3-4 such as the Samurai of Wutai wore. Reaper characters are, in addition, able to carry a set of Tanto, Wakazashi, Katana, and either Odachi or Nodachi (on their back) all at once. Though they may only wield one at a time due to double gripping unless they take a common ability.
Gloves:
The shortest range in the entire arsenal. However, also one of the speediest weapons and definitely the most lightweight. Choose these if you like to get right in someone's face or want to be a quick fighter.
Firearm:
Ranging from semi-automatic pistols, to rifles, revolvers, and shotguns. This is the most versatile weapon of the group. It deals moderate and is the longest range and very lightweight (depending on the type of gun). Probably the most balance weapon there is.
Rod and Staff:
Built for both those skilled in stick fighting and spell casters. Those who would prefer a long reach weapon should try using the Rods as they deal damage. Those would would like extra magical power imbued to them should go with a staff. However, staves deal little damage, if any. Rods are the slowest weapon apart from pole arms.
Polearm:
Easily one of the best range weapons. Other than firearms, you'll be getting one hell of a reach should you choose to wield pole arms. These range from spears to halberds and tridents. Be careful as they're extremely slow, the slowest of the weapons.
Throwing:
From knives, to axes, shurikens and shrapnel - throwing items are versatile and ranged. Their impact and range depends highly upon your character's own throwing abilities unlike firearms which generally act in the most predictable way regardless of the wielder. The speed as well as range and weight of throwing items depends on your poison of choice.
